Shortly after getting Austin’s mayor Steve Adler to declare February 4th as “A-Town GetDown Day” the band is back with a funky new album release, and announced it in beautiful fashion this past Friday at 3TEN ACL Live. For those of you who have never been to 3Ten, its right under the legendary ACL Live Moody Theater in Austin, and still has amazing acoustics but is built for much more of an intimate show. It was the perfect spot for A-Town GetDown to release this new funk to their local fans.
The band is comprised of an amazing soul singer and fantastic improvising musicians, with a simple goal of playing a mix of original and borrowed danceable funk and soul. A-Town Getdown brings a new vibe to Central Texas, and ATGD concerts are unique events where people often show up in themed costumes.

The group has been around since 2014, and they have really started to establish a strong audience in Austin. The reason for this is simple, they put on a SHOW. Their funk is infectious, and the Austin music scene is ready for their soul-funk fashion. They are phenomenal at keeping the crowd engaged, whether it be through seamless live improvisations between their all-star group, or having Damon Garcia play saxophone solos while walking through the crowd and making sure everyone is getting down with A-Town GetDown.
I had a few friends come to the show that had never seen the band before, and all of them left with huge smiles on their face, some soul-funk in their bloodstream, and the desire to go see ATGD again. If you are an artist in today’s music industry, your live show is vitally important to your success. A-Town GetDown knows just that, and this all star cast has figured out how to keep the funk going all night long, and their new album release party proves that the funk is here to stay in Austin, TX!
