If you haven’t heard of the Peterson Brothers Band yet, you are missing out. These young blues brothers from Bastrop, TX have been mastering their craft for years, and their blend of blues, funk, and soul has already grabbed many eyeballs during this year’s SXSW.
The Peterson brothers (Alex, 18, on bass and vocals, and Glenn Jr., 20, on guitar and lead vocals) have grown up playing together since they were very young. Rising stars in Austin, Texas, the Peterson Brothers self-titled debut album won the Living Blues Critics Award for Best Debut Blues Album of 2015.
Yesterday, at the Hometown Hangover event at Rattle Inn during the first Sunday of SXSW, the Peterson Brothers alongside their drummer and percussionist, dropped lots of jaws and brought out out lots of smiles. Despite their age, these brothers have quite an amazing stage presence. They are constantly smiling and just seem to thoroughly enjoy playing live music with one another. Their ability to let each other share the spotlight by switching off guitar and bass solos shows how much they respect one another, and how vital each one is to their overall success. These brothers are definitely ahead of their time, and it’s only a matter of time before the right person recognizes this.
The Peterson Brothers have been building their name by holding a standing room only weekly residency at Austin’s famed music hall The Continental Club. Glenn and Alex are mastering their craft daily, and are dazzling audiences playing gigs throughout the United States. The Peterson Brothers have appeared at the Chicago Blues Festival, Minnesota State Fair, Riverbend Festival, Austin City Limits Festival, Ogden Roots and Blues, and many more.
They have 2 more shows today including a 3pm set at the Rodeo Austin, as well as a 10pm set at their local favorite Continental Club. The Contintenal show is open to the public and does not require a SXSW badge. I promise you, this is one local Austin band you do not want to miss during SX this year…
Below is a quick video showcasing Glenn Jr.’s smooth guitar skills at their Rattle Inn show yesterday, and make sure you find time to see them at SXSW this week. Their whole upcoming tour can be found here.
