Float Fest on Pace to Sell Out 4th Straight Year
Float Fest is around the corner, and it’s bigger than ever. For those that don’t already know, Float Fest is back for its fourth year at Cool River Ranch in San Marcos, Texas this weekend, July 22nd and 23rd. Festival activities consist of dancing to live music on two stages, floating the San Marcos River, camping near festival grounds and riding carnival rides.
After last year’s success, Float Fest has established itself as a major player on Texas’s music festival radar. Based on this year’s lineup, it is clear that Float Fest has lived up to this reputation. The festival has always made a point to bring in some of the most energetic names in music to create the infamous fun atmosphere. For their fourth year, Float Fest presented an impressive lineup that includes some major artists.
One of the most notable aspects of this year’s lineup is how unique it is. While artists like Cage the Elephant are Texas festival veterans, playing Free Press Summerfest earlier this year and Austin City Limits last year, many other artists on this lineup are not on other lineups. Some examples of these artists include Neon Indian, Zedd and Weezer.
However, this year’s lineup is consistent with previous years in that it is encompasses many genres. In one day at Float Fest, you could see rappers, like Mac Miller and Lil Flip. You could also groove to electronic music, like Girl Talk and Snakehips. Then, you could jam some indie with Moon Taxi and MGMT. There’s even a Talking Heads tribute band on the lineup called HeartByrne.
Float Fest also used this lineup as an opportunity to highlight Texas talent. Some of these artists include Mike Jones and King of Nothing from Houston, and Sweet Spirit, Wild Child and Los Coast from Austin. Plus, you can catch Austinites, Blunt Force and Resonant Frequency, who performed at JamBarge earlier this summer. You can check out the full lineup on Float Fest’s video below.
Another Texas staple is the floating the river. Festival-goers can purchase tickets that allow them to beat the summer heat by cooling off in the river. Shuttles at the festival grounds take attendees a few miles upriver, then they float about two and a half miles back to Cool River Ranch. The float can take anywhere between two and a half hours to four hours, so come prepared with sunscreen! Float Fest understands the importance of keeping the river clean, so they hired professionals to ensure the festival is environmentally conscious.
Festival attendees also have the option to camp near the festival, and camping passes are included in all tickets. Campsites are first come, first served, and attendees to have the option to stay Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night.
Float Fest 2017 has combined past favorites, like the camping and floating, with a vamped-up lineup in order to present the biggest festival yet. Attendees can expect an unforgettable festival that showcases individuality and prioritizes fun. Tickets are still on sale, so grab them before they’re gone. You won’t regret it!
